I thought forever about what I wanted to do for Waylon's 1st birthday. Chuck E Cheese is just down the street from where we live but I didn't want to spend bookoo money on little pizzas and have a time limit on our party. I thought about having it at a skating rink but since all those who would be attending are out of high school, who would really make use of the rink? I would have LOVED to have a barbeque...but in Vegas weather? heck to the no. So what we finally decided on a couple weeks before his birthday was to try and reserve the stake center. I knew it was a long shot because the date I wanted was only weeks away and hello, it's wedding season (well isn't it always?). Anyways, the date I originally wanted it was August 13th, after his birthday on the 9th. But when I called, the stake center had already been booked for a wedding. So I asked for the weekend before, on the 6th, and surprisingly it was open!!
I didn't have much planned. It wasn't going to be a big party anyway. I don't know that many people here AND I just wanted to keep it simple. We set up the gym so it was half court volleyball and half court basketball. In the divider between the cultural hall and the chapel is where we set up the dj and all the food. Because I knew we'd be there for hours just hanging out, I bought lots of junk food. Chips, cookies, CANDY, and we set up 3 tubs full of drinks and gramma bought pizza. We sang happy birthday to Waylon and let him dig in his cake. It was hilarious- when Worthy saw the frosting on Waylon's face, he ran to the table, grabbed a napkin, and then tried to clean him up. Yes, we know who the clean brother is now. and holy cow. Almost all the food was gone by the end of the night, which is the way we like it. I was kind of worried everyone would get bored, but they didn't!! From volleyball to basketball to dancing to the music, and of course stuffing their stomachs, everyone really enjoyed themselves!! Family time is really the best time!
On the real day of his birthday, we took the boys to a free waterpark. It was perfect. Hardly anyone was there when we pulled up and the boys had the park to themselves for a little while. We spent a couple hours splashing in the water and playing on the playground until it started getting a little crowded. Which was perfect timing because we were getting hungry. We treated the boys to Cici's pizza, OUR FAVORITE place for a pizza buffet and then headed to gramma's for a little bit. There with Worthy's help, Waylon opened a few gifts and yes, those gifts have yet to leave our car. The backseat of our car is littered with toys and books and crumbs from fast food runs. But whatever makes the babies happy right??
Anyway, I can't believe Waylon is 1 already! I remember like it was yesterday the day he was born and his first week at home. He has grown so much...even bigger than Worthy. Well he certainly eats more than Worthy. lol. no seriously.
I have been so blessed to be the mommy of these two energetic mama's boys! And I'm excited to see what this little girl has in store for our little family. I have already bought a few things for her and I'm LOVING that I get to look for cute little girl things. Ok that's another topic I will soon be posting about. But I do love my boys!! :)
