Yesterday I had hard contractions starting at 6:30 am. They weren't 5 minutes apart, how far apart they need to be for me to check in to the hospital, so I told Zeus go to work and I'll call him when it's time. Well, I ended up calling him home around 9:30 even though my contractions were only about 10 minutes apart because it hurt so bad and I wanted him to be home when I need to go in instead of waiting a half hour for him to drive from work. Siliga, my mother in law, came to pick up the boys around 9:30 so I could just relax.
So we waited and waited. And waited and waited for my contractions to get closer together but it never happened. They were about 10 minutes apart ALL. DAY. I was getting soooo annoyed!! I hated sitting at home going through so much pain! I had Zeus go and pick the boys up around 3 because I missed them and it seemed like it would be awhile before I needed to head over to the hospital.
At 7:30, I finally had it. I called the hospital and told them I've been having contractions ALL DAY but nothing was happening and asked if I should come in. The nurse said that sometimes, when it's not your first child, contractions won't get as close as 5 minutes before things start to happen and that I should come in and be monitored just to see where I'm at. So I did.
Zeus and I got to the hospital around 8:30 and they put me on monitors to track baby's heart rate and my contractions. The nurse checked my cervix to see how far I was dilated and I was at 4!! I was so happy! The day before, I was still only at 1 1/2 cm. We sat for about 45 minutes on the monitor when the nurse came in and said that I should walk around for a little bit and then she'll check me again to see if anything changed so I can be admitted because the contractions were still 10 minutes apart.
We walked the halls for half an hour and the contractions were getting harder and only a couple minutes apart. When I couldn't take it anymore I told the nurse I wanted to be checked. She checked, and I was at 5!! She said, "Ok! Let me call the doctor and then admit you!"
Not even 10 minutes later the contractions hit. And HARD!! It was sooo painful! I was crying to Zeus how painful it was. My back was hurting. My stomach was hurting. And no matter how I tried to move around, I couldn't get in a position that would ease the pain. I would say it took about 5 hard contractions before she started to push herself out!
Ok, now keep in mind, that I was just there to be monitored. I was in a big room that had 4 little areas sectioned off with curtains and I was not the only woman in there getting monitored. There were two other couples there as well.
When the contractions came, I felt the urge to push and couldn't stop myself. When the nurses heard me pushing, they all came running and told me not to. All the while I was seriously yelling at the top of my lungs because of how much pain I was in. Yes, yelling in the room full of couples being monitored. All I remember is yelling and pushing and feeling baby's head come out a little, and one of the nurses saying, "She's not gonna last! Baby is coming NOW!" I remember them rushing me to a delivery room as I was pushing (and yelling some more). And everything after that happened so fast. When we got into the room I kept asking for the epidural but they told me by the time I got it baby will be born already. In my head I was thinking, I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M GOING TO HAVE THIS BABY NATURAL!!! I wasn't admitted into the hospital. I wasn't hooked up to any IV. They were putting it in as I was pushing baby out. The doctor wasn't even there yet and the nurses had to deliver baby!
I remember one minute being in so much pain, pushing and hearing the nurse tell me to breathe or else I'm going to pop the veins in my neck. It was soo hard to stop, but I did. And the next push, baby was out and I felt the biggest sense of relief. All the pain just went away in a split second. I honestly couldn't believe I did it. I couldn't believe what had happened!! I was just there to be monitored and the next thing I know, I'm pushing baby out! Naturally!
I felt so sorry for Zeus. I could only imagine what he was thinking hearing me yell and scream and push! But he was by my side the whole time trying to calm me down and help me get in a position to stop the pain. I think back and it makes me want to cry because of how gentle he was talking to me, asking me if I needed to hold on to him. Awwwwww :( tear!!
Anyway, when the nurses took baby out, he asked if I wanted him to stay or go with baby. I told him go, because I knew he wouldn't want to see the doctor stitch me up. I only tore a little and needed a couple stitches so it wasn't bad. After everything was done, doctor gave me some serious pain medication. I mean, SERIOUS. I couldn't keep my eyes open and kept slurring my words. Zeus said it was like I was high and kept laughing at me. And how about after all that, the nurses came in to ask me questions and sign papers...like I'd be able to fill out papers while high off medication. Zeus ended up filling them out for me and all I had to do was sign them, but it was soo hard to even hold the pen and kept falling asleep in the middle of them asking me questions. Zeus was really getting a kick out of it. Lol
So that's it! I went to the hospital just to be monitored and ended up having baby NATURALLY only 2 hours after arriving. I can only imagine what those couples were thinking as they heard me yelling and pushing and seeing the nurses rush me out. Hahahaha those poor people!! Oh well...my baby is FINALLY here!!
Oh yeah...and Zeus's job sent me flowers! Isn't that sweet?! :)
